The Global Education Practice (GEP) drives UNICEF’s global vision, thought leadership, and strategic engagement on education, working across headquarters, regional and country offices, and with a broad range of partners, donors, and multilateral platforms. Within GEP, the Strategic Engagement pillar leads advocacy, partnerships, resource mobilization, and strategic communications to raise the profile of UNICEF’s education priorities – from foundational learning and adolescent girls’ education to education financing, technology, and the digital transformation of learning.

Effective, consistent, and compelling digital communication is essential to this agenda. As global conversations on education increasingly unfold on social platforms, GEP is strengthening its presence and influence on channels such as LinkedIn and X (formerly Twitter) – both for the practice as a whole and for the Global Director for Education as a leading voice in the sector.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Adviser, Strategic Programme Engagement, the Social Media Associate will support GEP to plan, produce, and amplify high-quality social media content that advances UNICEF’s education priorities, grows engagement with key audiences, and elevates the digital presence and thought leadership of the Global Director for Education. The assignment offers a motivated volunteer the opportunity to contribute directly to global education advocacy while developing professional skills at the heart of a leading UN practice.
