Description

Ground Station Engineer in the Ground-based Communication and Tracking Assets Section (OPS-GSA), Ground Station Engineering Division, Ground Systems Engineering and Innovation Department, Directorate of Operations.

Reporting to the Head of Section, you will contribute to the development of antenna infrastructure and antenna mechanical and servo subsystems for Deep Space Antenna 5 (DSA-5), as part of the DSA-5 project team.

Duties

  • Prepare statements of work and specifications for DSA-5-related procurements, with a focus on antenna infrastructure;
  • Support the project management of DSA-5 deployment and associated infrastructure;
  • Manage industrial procurement contracts for DSA-5 infrastructure;
  • Contribute to DSA-5-related reviews during the design and acceptance phases;
  • Participate in factory and site acceptance testing of DSA-5 antenna subsystems and infrastructure.

Technical competencies

Antenna systems engineering, with a focus on infrastructure, mechanical systems and servo systems
Infrastructure specification and development, including antenna foundations, HVAC and electrical subsystems
Proven experience in antenna mechanical and servo systems
Proven experience in antenna infrastructure, including foundations
Proven experience in HVAC and complex cooling systems
Proven experience in electrical power distribution subsystems, with a focus on resilient power architectures

Education and professional experience

A master's degree in a relevant domain is required for this post together with 10 years of relevant professional experience.

Additional requirements

You are expected to have several years of experience in the field of ground station antennas, together with hands-on project management experience in a relevant technical environment. You should demonstrate strong motivation, the ability to define solutions and solve problems autonomously, and the capacity to communicate effectively within both the project team and the wider organisation.

Important Information and Disclaimer
In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.

Applicants must be eligible to access information, technology, and hardware which is subject to European or US export control and sanctions regulations.

During the recruitment process, the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests. Additionally, successful candidates will need to undergo basic screening before appointment, which will be conducted by an external background screening service, in compliance with the European Space Agency's security procedures.
